If you haven’t already heard, this week is National Cask Ale Week which aims to get people celebrating the great British tradition of cask ale.
Cask ale has been around for years and years and is currently having a bit of a resurgence, mainly due to the huge array of fantastic breweries, excentric brewers and quality ales that are being produced all over the country (and the world). It’s starting to shake the stigma of pongy ale for beardy weirdies and really starting to get people excited and enjoying their ale.
It’s a lot simpler than you may think – just go here enter your postcode, town or city to find your nearest pub, grab a few of your mates as beer is best enjoyed and shared with friends, then head on down there for a pint or two of proper cask ale…obviously drinking responsibly.
If you have an Iphone you can also download the FREE CaskfinderApp in the app store this automatically finds your location and can direct you to the nearest pub serving cask ale.
If you haven’t tried Cask Ale before then now is the perfect time, ask that barperson for advice on which is the lightest or something that’s not to strong, if you are lucky they will even give you a sample or two of the ales.
I started the week with a visit to a local charity beer festival with a group of friends, some of which were non beer drinkers where we consumed enough cask ale to keep us going until Friday when we are heading out across the moors to a pub that has a great selection of cask ale and local food.
I love nothing more than spending a day out in the hills or on the moors then hitting the nearest country pub for some grub and a couple of pints of local ale, whether it’s the middle of winter and we spend the evening sat by a roaring fire or its the heat of summer and we site outside catching some rays and enjoying the views we will always have a pint of proper cask ale in hand…unless that is one of us is playing designated driver.
If like me you are into your walking and cask ale then check out The Inn Way Blog and Walking-books.com for inspiration for walks that involve pubs.
So ignore the TV Guide, forget about the weather and get down to your local, have a pint and support all that is great about British Brewing
