A few weeks back I recieved a Duvel gift pack and press release in the post, The pack contained 2 bottles of Duvel and a nice big branded Duvel Glass. The whole box is well put together and covered in the nice but simple Duvel branding, the box has lots of information about Duvel on along with some instructions on how to achieve the perfect glass of Duvel.
It retails for around a tenner and If you haven’t got a Duvel glass already it is well worth it, the glass has now become my favourite drinking glass, plenty of room for beer, its a lovely tulip shape, it’s sturdy so you don’t feel like you are going to knock it over or break it and it’s got a nice wide opening to get your nose in and have a good sniff.
Duvel gets a lot of stick for being too mainstream and being a bit of the mass produced side, but I like it, it packs quite a punch at 8.5% but is incredibly smooth, it pours a lovely hazy golden colour, with huge head, has aromas of yeasty esters with hints of fruit and spice.
The yeast and alcohol come through in the flavours, but they are balanced with wheat, hops and a little malt, the carbonation is good and all of the above combines to give a really great mouth feel, velvety smooth and very delicious.
I tried the perfect pour following the instructions on the back of the box, although I don’t think I did a very good job.
Beer Trivia: Apparently the word “Duvel” is Flemish for “Devil”, and it going down as easily a it does at 8.5% ABV it could get you into a lot of trouble.
You can pick Duvel up from a couple of supermarkets and also order online from Beermerchants

Yum, I like Duvel – perfect with a dark chocolate bounty
Haven’t had one of those in ages. My only real opportunity to buy it is during my infrequent visits to Brussels, but then there’s so much more that I’ve never had to choose from 😀
I don’t think you poured it in a wrong way. At least the result looks as it should be: a Duvel must have a big foamy head, that’s why the glass designers carved a little D inside the bottom of the glass so as to provide for more foam.
So in case you are wondering why all the other beers drunk from that glass turn out to be quite foamy, that’s why! ;o)
looked like piss i did not like it would not buy again there are a lot of better drinks out there
Way too sweet. It felt like drinking syrup. I had a few sips and poured the rest down the sink.
Your right, you didn’t do a good job pouring it. I have just bought the same pack back from France today and I can see why you like the glass. Bottles chilling as we speak.
LOL i must to better next time!
Duvel is a tremendous beer. Very cost efficient as well – personally couldn’t do more than 5 in a night and what, you’re then talking a max of €12.50 spent (depending on where you drink of course!)
