A few weeks ago I received something a little bit different in the post, these came in the shape of Beer Savers, Beer Savers are little silicone bottle caps that are designed to fit onto beer bottles keeping your beer fresh and fizzy.
I’ve seen all sorts of stoppers and caps before but never anything like these, each pack contains 6 Beer Savers in a variety of lovely bright colours.
They are made from a nice soft food safe silicone that is dishwasher safe and reusable they slip over normal beer bottles with ease and feel pretty secure, although I did manage to get one to pop off by shaking a half full bottle of beer quite vigorously.
Since then I’ve tried it on a few different bottles and they really do work, to be honest I was quite surprised, I’ve left beer open for 48 hours (the beer in question was an 18 month old Crown Wheetie Bits) and it’s still been just as good, even after all that time.
They are great for bottles of strong beer, barley wine or the bigger 750ml bottles if you don’t want to drink them all in one go. They would also be a better option on beer’s like Sink the Bismarck from Brewdog which came with a stopper which seems to be stuck in my bottle (oops).
The only problem I’ve found is that they don’t fit on the big champagne style bottles or some of the non standard shape ones, it would be quite handy if you got a couple of different sizes in packs to cover all manner of bottles.
The website also suggests that they would be great for keeping bottles sterile when home brewing, I could see this working but they would need to be a bit cheaper, as they currently retail for £9.99 for 6.
A friend said to me they may also be useful if on a night out so that you can cover the top of your bottle, In some busy clubs this might well be a good idea, especially if they came with your drink to save you taking your own with you.
They would make a great Christmas or Birthday present for anyone you know who likes beer, they are far easier to use than re capping the bottle using a new cap or using the plug style stoppers.
You can visit the Beer Savers website here or if you want to buy some you can buy them from here
I purchased these after reading this blog – they’re really good, however I’ve realised that I’ll NEVER use them!
