Before Christmas the very kind guys over at Stringers Beer sent me a couple of bottles of their ales to try, The first of which was Stringers IPA.
The first thing that impressed me was the branding, it’s really bold and striking, it’s also really clean and simple, so much so it’s sat on the shelf of empties that I liked the branding on along side the likes of Moor JJJ and the Hardknott Beers.
Stringers IPA pours a lot lighter than I imagined, It’s a lovely pale golden colour with a fantastic thick head, it smells of freshly grated orange zest, with hints of peppery spice.
It tastes brilliant, well balanced sweet malt, against the flowery orange zest hops with a hint of pineapple, which then give it a lovely distinct bitterness, the carbonation is spot on making it super drinkable and at 5.5% it punches well above it’s weight. I really enjoyed this beer and found it hard to put it down.
All in all Stringers IPA is pretty sensational stuff, I’d go as far as to say it’s one of the best brewed beers I had last year,
Stringers not only make some excellent beer but their brewery is powered by 100% renewable energy sources and they are only a couple of hours down the road from me in the beautiful Lake District, which is a hot bed of brewing at the moment with the likes of Hawkshead, Hardknott and Barngates all banging the Cumbrian beer drum.
You can buy Stringers IPA here, visit their website here or follow them on twitter here. You can also read Jon’s Meet the brewer here
I love this beer – from it’s branding to the fresh citrus taste to the tangy marmalade elements in there too, it’s excellent.
At 5.5% it’s very easy to drink but complex enough to be a great bottled ale, Stringers have done a great job with their IPA.
Their Dry Stout is excellent too, a not-to-smoky, great tasting, easy drinking stout.
I gave them both clear [baron rating 5/5] marks!
I second your review; as an assertively-flavoured IPA this is a bit outside my beer comfort zone, but this was a great beer (and I paid money for it, although if any of the Cumbrian pro-situs are reading this I’d happily take a review copy or two off their hands!)
Glad you both like it, it’s glad to know I’m not alone!
I’ll certainly be calling in and buying some when i’m down in the lakes next.
Had one last night. Lovely beer reminiscent of BridgePort IPA.
Not had bridgeport IPA …tell me more..
